Hot Chip is definitely one of my favorite bands going right now. And though I have yet to catch them live and in person (one of the great sadnesses in my life at present), I was very excited to see them do this track from their new album “One Life Stand” with the wonderful Roots in a web exclusive for the Jimmy Fallon show.
My iPhone is completely integrated into every bit of my life. It gives me directions, controls my computer and my tv, tunes my guitar, and wakes me up. So I just downloaded the app TweetMic, recorded a song I wrote tonight and tweeted it! I’m excited about how easy it is to share music with friends all over the world within minutes.
The only downside I’ve found with TweeMic is that there is no way to save your recordings. While you can listen all you want off of TweetMic’s site I wish that I could save it to my phone and put it on my computer.

As much as I expected to enjoy The Books‘ show at the ICA on Friday night, an avant garde performance at a museum sounds somehow a little more academic than fun. It’s just like those crazy Books to defy expectations, though.
Each song was accompanied by a video montage projected behind the band, many of which were funny both in and out of context. The footage incited audible laughter at several points in their hour-long set and was pulled from a wide variety of sources, ranging from ’90s commercials, to home videos, to self-help videos, to nature documentaries.
In addition to previously-released favorites like “Take Time” and “Smells like Content”, The Books played a bunch of new stuff as well. Here’s a fun new song that I can only assume is called “Cold Freezing Night”, which features samples of kids saying some fairly disturbing things. The voice samples were recorded on Talkboy cassette recorders in the ’90s. Do you remember those?
I was just telling a friend of mine about the time my girlfriend and I saw Hauschka at the Goethe Institute in Boston back in 2007. It was clear from the start that the show was going to be atypical–I mean, we were offered wine and cheese when we first came in. Volker Bertelmann’s one-man set was a dazzling mix of cascading piano melodies and minimal percussion. He re-prepared his piano between each song using objects such as wooden wedges, metal foil, and duct tape.
After the show, the 20-or-so attendees all crowded around him and were treated to a totally impromptu question-and answer-session. Volker told us about his experiences on tour and his methods for preparing the piano. He told us that he first started preparing his piano because he didn’t want to have to layer a second track to include percussion on his recordings.
He also explained that he had a very difficult time getting people to let him borrow their pianos on tour. Understandably, most piano owners run screaming from anyone who even mentions the possibility of preparing their piano. Volker actually carried around a document signed by piano experts that explained that his preparation methods were not at all harmful to the piano.

As previously reported, Amelia Emmet of Mr. Sister played at The Whitehaus this past Friday. Check out this live recording of her stunning opening song, “The Pest”, which is performed entirely a capella.
Damiera treated fans to a blistering 40-minute set at the Middle East last night. It was amazing to see them expertly reproduce every single note of their dizzying guitar lines in a live setting. One very pleasant surprise was the inclusion of “Heartbeat” from their obscure and out-of-print debut EP as the encore. Below, you can check out the recording of “Heartbeat” from last night’s show.
Elijah took a break from recording to play a killer set at a Grinding Tapes house party on Friday night. Thanks to everyone who came out to see him!
He currently has three songs fully completed, and is working on the last two tracks for the EP. He’s hoping to finish up recording by tomorrow! Yesterday, he collaborated with local multi-instrumentalist, Samantha Hale on a new track.

So, it’s been a minute since I’ve posted and for that I am sorry (cause it looks like things are really heating up)… but here is something completely worth your time to check out….
Sigur Rós is a really excellent band from Iceland. I know I’m not the only one who would agree in saying they are one of the best bands going. But whether or not you are familiar with them, this video of them in a bar singing a tune off their incredible and notably underrated last album Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust is definitely an eye and ear pleaser.
